Organic Growers' Farmers' Market - June 18, 2014 - Lake Ella Tallahassee, Florida

Five years ago I sold eggs from my free range, certified natural fed chickens, vegetables and my artwork at the Growers’ Market at Lake Ella in Tallahassee. When I accepted a different position at the office and lost my flex schedule, it ended my setting up as a vendor at various farmers’ markets in Leon and Wakulla Counties. Memories of the Farmers’ Markets are great ones even if I did get soaked a lot of times with summer showers. So I began my quest of getting in contact with the person in charge of this Market. I didn’t feel comfortable about advertising us being there if the rules had changed and we wouldn’t stay as a lot can change in five years, ya know. Last Wednesday we took the bull by the horn and with our country/rustic table, our price signs, baskets and veggies and off we went. Wow, did we have a blast! I refreshed hellos with vendors that were there five years ago and met some wonderful sweet new ones. We talked with a lot of visitors, sharing the benefits of non Genetically Modified food and the wonderful old fashion taste of heirloom produce along with our belief of growing organic and we sold a lot of produce. Ron enjoyed it so much that he said he wanted to do it every day!

We’ll be back on Wednesday so if you get the opportunity, be sure to stop by. The Growers’ Market is located under the oak tree at Black Dog CafĂ© located on the northwest side of Lake Ella on North Monroe Street. We are positive you’ll enjoy the checking out all the goodies the vendors have and we’ll make sure you enjoy our goodies also! We’ll get there between 12-1 p.m. and stay probably until around 6 p.m. This week along with our veggies we’ll have blackberry pie by the slice, cookies, breads, and I’m not sure what else we’ll have time for. We’ll be bringing some of our art also so that will be fun. We make rustic tables and received a lot of compliments on them last week so if you are interested in something rustic, be sure to ask!

I don’t think I’ll have a credit card reader attachment for my phone by Wednesday so be sure to bring cash. I don’t think any of the vendors accepts credit cards but we will soon. If you want to prepay with a credit card, let me know and I’ll create an invoice with your order, you can pay online and then just pick up your order at the Market.

I’ll post some photographs of our setup….lots of good things coming!

We love growing healthy food and appreciate you very much, thank you so much for stopping by!

Summer solstice arrived yesterday with a wonderful welcome back party of 98 degrees here in north Florida.  Welcome to summer time! Watermelons are getting bigger...and tasty looking, tomatoes are everywhere and cucumber varieties of round lemon to 18" Japanese Long are peaking around everywhere.  I found a couple 18" long zucchinis while harvesting today that will make it into some good yummy bread real soon.

Happy Summer!

Here's today's availability list.  Thank you so much for your interest in our Little Eden Heirloom Farm!

2014 Availability List - June 11 Update

The "Organic Heirloom Vegetables" sign is up at the mailbox of our Little Eden Heirloom Farm. Ron also put up a table in the shade which is another wonderful thing. This way for those that like to pre-order, we can have things harvested and in bag(s), box(es) and/or in the cooler ready for pick-up. You are more than welcome to wait until we harvest and/or pack your order but for those that do not have time to wait, we think this will work out perfectly. It doesn't get shady at the table until around 11 a.m. so I am in the process of making chalkboard signs that we'll write on what is available. We're also thinking of putting some produce on the table in the shade for those passer-byes. Our telephone numbers are on the sign and at the bottom of this post. It's a small sign, viewable from both directions and tonight we'll make a larger sign with the word "Vegetables" which will be easier to read as you drive by.

We added Chioggia beets to this week's list. Chioggia is a mild beet that is white with red stripes, a pretty plate additon for the home table or those in the restaurant business.
