2014 Availability List - September 30 Update

Don't forget about the holidays coming up for your bread and dessert baking needs.  If you have something in mind that is not on our list, suggestions are always welcome!  If you want to pay with a credit card or make partial payments, please ask.

Below is this week's availability list.  Among what's new this week, we have young turnip greens, garlic Italian artisan bread, whole wheat bread with sunflower and flax seeds, rolls, sandwich bread, gluten free cookies, and hot pepper vinegar, pint.

Mockingbirds and warblers....I tell them that bees, butterflies and lizards are off limits but I'm not sure they listen to me. I took some photographs of the little warbler with worm in mouth as he fluttered in the mimosa tree looking for those nasty pests that like our gourds.  I'll update our littleedenheirloomfarm.blogspot.com website later this week and hope some of my photos do him justice and are good enough to post.

We're adding new fall crops almost daily as well as adding new items to our custom baking line, thanks to our wonderful customers, we are speedily growing in production.  Seven different kinds of lettuces and Asian stir-fry greens are growing nicely; spinach, brussel sprouts and kale should be poking themselves up soon.  We'll start harvesting micro (small) cuttings within the next two weeks and should start harvesting Burgundy Okra next week.

Along with harvesting produce for tomorrow's trip to the Organic Growers' Market at Lake Ella, Tallahassee, today Ron finished laying chips over a approx. 20' x 50' tilled bed.  This bed grew tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, and cantaloupe, in the spring and summer and now will work for us by growing lots of cabbages, broccoli, beets, kale, greens, lettuces, radishes, carrots and more.  I worked baking bread and sculpting clay birds in my art studio for shipment to Illinois, Australia and Italy. I am so so excited this bed is ready for planting as we have thousands of seeds begging to grow, all heirloom, all grown organic.  It has certainly been another busy day but we love it.

Thank you so much, we look forward to hearing from you!

Welcome to FALL

We welcome morning temperatures in the sixties and with fall settling in on us last night (September 22 at 10:29 P.M. EDT), today is the first full day of fall....  we are sure happy to see it arrive and hope it stays for a long while.  To have a long fall and long spring makes farming this area of the south easier....it's less stressing on the plants, more productivity, less bugs as well as squash and tomato fungus (leaf mold)....we look forward to it.

With this cooler weather we say good-bye and don't come back to hopefully all the bad bugs.....good riddance to the 50 or so army worms we killed yesterday along with a lot of blister beetles.    With radishes and beets poking their heads up out of the soil, Swiss chard, and carrots germinating in the earth's richness, we thank our Lord for the blessings.  The yellow straight neck and crooked neck squash are getting bigger and more abundant, we will have some for this week's market and a goodly amount next week.  Okra, both red (Burgundy) and green (Clemson Spineless) are budding out so within the next two weeks, we'll harvest these young and tender.  So many things God has created that interest and excite me, there's just not enough time in each day. From my love of farming and my love of art (visit one of my websites at countrysquirrelsrus.etsy.com), everyday is a busy one for both of us.

HAPPY FALL YA'LL!!

2014 Availability List - September 17 Update

We are excited that we now accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) onsite at the farm and at the market. Your purchase will be processed through my phone with your credit card.   You can choose your receipt to be either emailed or a text sent to your cell phone.  When paying with a credit card, you will be asked to provide a photo I.D. to prevent fraud.  You are still welcome to purchase via Invoice emailed to you and pay via PayPal on the internet or with money order or cash.

Looks like we're in for some cooler weather this week so our fall crops that are growing nicely should love it...hopefully the bugs won't and will decide to go away.  Yeah, I know, living in the south does have it's luxuries! :)   With young summer squash plants setting fruit, blessings of loads of peppers and lots more eggplant flowers, we are happy!  The beans and okra are growing so fast, I bet growth  crackling can be heard if we had time to stop and listen.  With the cooler mid September weather coming in, it won't be long and the baby salad and stir-fry greens will be saying pick me!  After spending what seems like a lifetime bending over to cut lettuces, swiss chard, etc., during last winter/spring harvests, I plan to have raised lettuce gardens next year!!!

I've updated the spreadsheet so you can get an idea of when to start expecting that tasty crop of choice.

If you want this sent weekly to your email, just drop us a line at littleedenheirloomfarm@zoho.com and we'll add you to our email list.

You may have noticed the sign at the road has been taken down.  After painting, it will be returned to its rightful position at the mailbox so you can have a better landmark.

Here's this week's availability list.

Thank you so much!
