Another Year Almost Here!

Our 2016 year is looking bright as we continue our focus of establishing our property into more heirloom organic edible forest gardens which incorporates the maximum use of fruit trees with various herbs, vegetables, fruits, and flowers underneath.  We are hoping to start our next projected project soon of bee hives so to offer our own raw organic wildflower honey while they work for us as pollinators.  This week I hope to find time to contact the folks that own the woods to the east of us and to the south of us to see if they would be interested in selling all or a portion of their woodland at monthly payments with no money down so we can expand our efforts of providing healthy non genetically modified food to all that want it.  Our plans are to have as soon as the Lord sees fit, a 50 +- acre farm.  This year we have had classes in farming and baking to teenagers that have never been exposed to where their food comes from and/or how it is grown or made so we want to expand on the lack of interest that was seen in those kids' eyes when they arrived vs. how excited they became when they were able to hold chicks, hear the turkeys gobble, etc.,  plant seeds and turn flour into squishy dough and then into beautiful loaves of bread to enjoy.   A petting zoo and classes will be fun for kids and adults alike.

Thank you again for a great 2015!

Shiitake Mushrooms Harvest Season Has Begun!

Shiitake Mushrooms! We don't have them at our Farm Stand but be sure to contact us with your order. $14 pound, here's some photographs of one pound so you can get an idea. Shelf life is refrigerated 14 days in paper bag. We happily sell half pounds, etc.  We're excited helping the USDA with an experiment to see if Shittake mushrooms will grow on some of the invasive non native trees growing here in this area of the U.S.  For the experiment we are using Water Oak which is the standard growing medium, Mimosa, Chinese Tallow and China Berry.  This week's harvest was taken from the Water Oak and a few from the Chinese Tallaw.

Below are a few photographs to enjoy.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Our mission is to teach and spread the news of how healthy and TASTY non Genetically Modified (GMO) food can be! Secondly but as important, our mission is to inform others of the dangers of Genetic Modification, for example, the dangers of herbicide being chemically added to the seed so it will die at a certain stage of the plant's life or so that no grasses/weeds will grow around it....by eating the GMO produce, we take into our bodies these chemicals, causing cancer, disease, etc. This is just an example of why we should stay away from Genetically Modified food. Please take the time to research and educate yourself... to be informed.

2015 Availability List - August 10 Update

With hundreds of seeds growing under grow lights inside in the air conditioning awaiting for cooler weather, it's always time for harvesting, planting, weeding, and planning, not to mention all the baking, creating and caring for critters we do each day of the week.  Crop rotation, succession planting, creating a biological ecosystem where assassin bugs, chickens, guineas, geese, ducks and turkeys help us with our crop pest control, composting, and the list goes on....now if we can come up with a solution for the unwanted grass, aka weeds in our gardens, we will have it made. Laying cardboard boxes down and putting chips on top will eventually pay off and allll the grass/weed seeds will cease to live. Note to self - darkness does not kill all weed seeds but it does help so don't give up!!

We now have a self service farm stand at the entrance of our farm and are happy that folks are responding wonderfully.  We've met a lot of real nice folks that appreciate our efforts and we thank you all very much.  I didn't have time to take photographs but here's a list of things available this week - Sunday - Friday - Closed Saturdays:

Great for adding to soups, stews, making your own breads, etc. Email us at littleedenheirloomfarm@zoho.com and let us know how many you want along with your email address and where you will be picking them up at. I'll send you an invoice through Square, the company who handles our credit card transactions. Prepaying with credit or debit card is required unless you are a member of our CSA Farm Family. Farm Family members can pay when you pick up your CSA share. The following week of delivery/pickup we'll have them waiting for you in the cooler.

Blackberry Banana Bread
Banana Chocolate Chip
Zucchini Bread
Vegan Wholewheat Cookies
Gluten Free Brownies
Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies
Fresh herbs

Newsflash! We'll also have fresh made tasty peach preserves! $6 half pint. They are low sugar so you can take the fruit and not have the sweetness overpower it. Fresh made, tasty and makes a great gift!
Can you guess what the other photograph is? Well, I looked on the Internet for more ways to preserve eggplant and stumbled upon a recipe for the eggplant jerky. They say eggplant jerky tastes a little like beef jerky, and a little like bacon. Well, we shall see! If it tastes good, we'll offer it at the Market tomorrow, hope to see you there!

Ask about our CSA Farm Share program!  Help support our Little Eden and other area organic farms, it's a win for you and a win for us small farmers.  Two convenient Tallahassee pickup locations, Mondays and Wednesdays and if you are located in Crawfordville, we have a weekly delivery route.

2015 CSA Subscriptions - April Update

Little Eden Heirloom Farm
Crawfordville, Florida

~Always Heirloom~
~Always Organic~

Community Supported Agriculture - The benefits of participating in a CSA are many. As a member you will not only enjoy all of the food but you will also know exactly where your food is grown and who grows it. All of our heirloom produce is organically grown - no pesticides - no herbicides.

As a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Share Member, you are part of our farm family.  You help pay for seeds, electricity for water, organic soil additives and fertilizers and so much more.  Our personal commitment to you:   Have the peace of mind to know you are eating fresh organically grown produce, no genetic modifications, no genetic engineering.   We now collaborate with three other local organic farms to provide to a larger customer base. It’s a win for those that want to support organic growers and a win for us small farmers.  We are so happy to share our love of growing healthier food with you.

You’ll receive extras, above and beyond your share purchased.   Each week you’ll find something to try that you didn’t know about, maybe some fresh made organic mustard or a jar of preserves we harvested and made just for you.  Each Full Vegetable Share Membership will receive a loaf of bread, whole wheat or if you prefer, winter white (your choice) and each Half Vegetable Share Membership will receive a loaf of bread every two weeks.  (Bread opt-out is an option, detailed below)
Start off spring right by jumping into a share full of seasonal, organic heirloom vegetables like salad lettuces, stir-fry lettuces, greens, kale, sprouts (i.e., sunflower, broccoli, bean, etc.), whole grain breads, cut flowers, herbs, and more. Each week you’ll enjoy what’s in season for this area.
We are small enough to provide that personal touch.  If you do not like bell peppers (or peppers in general) let us know and we’ll work with you to replace it with something else.  You are welcome to opt out of the items you do not like or eat.  Do you not like collard greens?  Let us know!

A Full Share is designed to feed a vegetarian family of 1-2 each week.

A Half Share is designed to feed a non-vegetarian family of 1-2 each week.

Add an additional $8 per week for specialty/sweet breads to include, for example, a slice or two of our fan favorite Blackberry Banana Bread, Cranberry Orange Bread, Zucchini Bread, Whole Wheat Crackers, Chocolate Chip Cookie(s) and/or some fresh made bagels, doughnuts, etc.

Farm fresh Egg Shares are a great Add-On.  At $4 per dozen chicken eggs; $6 per dozen duck eggs – to be offered late 2015 or early 2016 (duck eggs are not available year-around).  You are welcome to sign up for Full Egg Share (weekly) or Half Egg Share (bi-weekly) to meet your family needs.  Half Egg Shares are not on the availability list but do inquire!  Our free-range chickens and ducks are fed strictly Certified Natural Feed which contains no hormones, no antibiotics, no meat, and no feathers.  They also happily scratch and peck the garden weeds, assisting us with garden pest control.

Add-Ons can be purchased separately; you are welcome to purchase only breads and/or eggs.  Let us know if you want only loaf bread of wheat, white, etc. - $6 per week share.  Likewise, if you want a Full or Half Share with no bread, the cost is $24 per week for Full Share and $12 per week for Half Share.

We’re sure you’ll love the varieties of vegetables, fruit, dehydrated snacks, condiments, baked items, preserves, herbs and flowers our Little Eden Heirloom Farm has to offer.

We are year-around growers.  As you look at the availability list you’ll see we pack in more than a full day’s work, doing what we love - lessening the environment of its GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and overabundance of pesticides and teaching others about these issues.  Throughout the year you will receive beans, beets, cabbage, blackberries and/or other fruit, broccoli, chard, cucumbers, lettuces, potatoes, squash, tomatoes, watermelon, various herbs and the list goes on and on.  Each week we’ll share with you what the Lord has given us to harvest from our gardens.
CSA members also get priority in ordering "a la carte" items added to your bag/box.  Many of these items are limited in quantity and only last a few short weeks or days. As we send out our weekly “Harvesting and Happenings Newsletter” send us an email and let us know what you would like and if you’ll be paying for it at Market pick-up, or if you would like an invoice sent to you for pre-payment with a credit card (credit card transactions are also available at the Market).

Contact us today at littleedenheirloomfarm@zoho.com, or give us a call at 850-274-7690.  Here’s a few questions we’ll need answers to get your subscription started:

>Share? – Full Share or Half Share
>Start date?
>Number of weeks paying for up front?  There’s no minimum number of weeks to get your share started, some pay for the first two weeks and then pay weekly, others pay monthly while others pay months in advance.  >We’ll work with you anyway we can.
>Opt Outs?
>Bread variety – Everyone so far has asked for the Stone Ground Whole Wheat with Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds, and Flax Seeds.  You have the option to choosing another, i.e., No Seeds, Rye, White or another you may suggest.
