Tomato Hornworm Season
You are standing outside late in the afternoon and think you were just
buzzed by an evening hummingbird. Think hummingbird moth or hawkmoth.
The five-spotted hawkmoth (Manduca quinquemaculata). They quickly fly
around sticking their long proboscis into the heavenly scented four
o'clock flowers feeding on their nectar...and laying its eggs.
Unfortunately that's where the love stops. It's the dreaded tomato
hornworm season.
